Frank J. Wilstach, comp. A Dictionary of Similes. 1916.

Charles Sangster

Ethereal as the air.

As fixed as the law of light.

Fresh as the tropic rose.

Fall low as Persian to the sun.

As luminous as the sun’s intensest beam.

Minds open as a well-read book.

Proud as an empress on her marriage-day.

Steady as the ocean waves.

Sure as the sun rolls up the morn,
Or twilight from eve is born.

Sweet as the dreamings of the nightingales.

Swift as a hawk.

Translucent as pure crystal.

Thy voice like rills
Of silver, trills
Such sounds of liquid sweetness.
