Frank J. Wilstach, comp. A Dictionary of Similes. 1916.

Petrarch

She breathes sweet serene as ’twere a gentle spirit from the skies.

Changeful as the lunar ray.

Cold as marble.

Enslaved as a spell.

Fair like the rose, ’midst paling flowers the queen.

Fled like shadows.

Frail as glass.

Sinks eclipsed, as at the dawn a star when cover’d by the solar ray.
