Frank J. Wilstach, comp. A Dictionary of Similes. 1916.

Don Marquis

Ceased like an exquisite lyric
That dies on the breast of night.

Flit like blown feathers.

Flocked to his call
Like sprites that necromancy
Of a Prospero holds in thrall.

Glimmer like a butterfly.

Moaned like some stricken thing … strangled with its own despair.

They pass
Like a breath from the face of a glass.
