Frank J. Wilstach, comp. A Dictionary of Similes. 1916.

George Mac-Henry

Bright as musky moss-rose summer’s sun.

Bright as the dimpled smiles that spring enwreath.

Budded as a thorn to sting.

Chaste as the pious rapture of the nun.

Fair as a Seraph.

Ferments like boiling yeast.

Glistened like the glow of precious stones.

Mild as the call of spring to buried flowers.

Noiseless … as the falling dew.

Pure as the kiss that waked Endymion.

Sad as the tears the sullen Winter weeps.

Soft as the swan-down where Summer sleeps.

Sweet as summer’s showers.

Warm as Cytherea.
