Question

Explain AC generator.

Expert Solution
Step 1

AC generator is device which converts mechanical energy into electrical energy in the form of alternative emf/current. It works based on the principle of electromagnetic induction. AC generator consists of a magnet that produces uniform magnetic field and a rectangular coil that are connected with slip rings to which carbon brushes are attached. The metallic slip rings are insulated from each other. One end of each carbon brush is connected to the ring and other end is connected to the circuit. The rectangular coil rotates about an axis perpendicular to the magnetic field.
