There are many types of search patterns and they vary on how they are completed and when they are most effective. The different types of search patterns are: Line/Strip Search Pattern, Grid Search Pattern, Spiral Search Pattern, Wheel/Ray Search Pattern, Quadrant/Zone Search Pattern, and Vehicle Searches.
Line Strip Search Patterns is where investigators begin at the boundary at one end of the crime scene and walk straight across to the other side. They go a little farther along the border and walk straight back to the other side. This method is most effective in scenes where the boundaries are well established because they dictate the start and ending of the

Any preliminary identification of a victim or suspect should be recorded also. (Saferstein, 2009).
There are certain steps to photographing a crime scene and certain photos are to be taken. The most important part is for it to be in an unaltered condition. Except for injured parties, objects are not to be moved until they have been photographed from every angle. If they are then the evidence could be admissible as evidence at a trial. (Saferstein, 2009).
Each crime scene should be photographed as completely as possible in a logical succession. It should include the area where the crime took place and all adjacent areas where important acts occurred immediately before or after the commission of the crime. The photographer will normally work from the perimeter to the center of a scene. The sequence must be consistent for all crime scenes. Investigators may take additional pictures to use in court. (Saferstein, 2009).
When completing a crime scene sketch, it is important to include specific information on each sketch. There should be the title block which contains the case number, the agency number, the name and title of the artist, the location of the scene, and the date and time at which the sketch was created. It might also state the victim’s name, the names of any suspects, or the type of crime. The title block should appear in the lower right corner of the sketch paper. The legend should contain the key to the identity
To record a crime scene, forensic scientist can use photography, drawings, and videography. Photographs are an important record of the unaltered crime scene, Drawings or sketches provides valuable information when a photograph cannot accurately depict the scale of a room or the relationship of items to each
Yes, it is necessary to videotape and photograph the crime scene. This documents how the scene looked upon your arrival prior to any manipulations by you, the coroner, or the crime scene technicians.
By now the crime scene has been labeled a homicide and detectives have been dispatched to the scene. When the detectives arrive the lead officer will then provide a detailed crime scene briefing to the detective in charge of the scene. This briefing will be the only opportunity for the detective to receive the initial aspects of the crime scene prior to subsequent investigation. Since the crime scene and any/all evidence collected are the key factors in making a case, the crime scene must be documented as soon as possible including, appearance and condition of the scene upon arrival, lights on/off, shades up/down, doors, windows open/closed, any unusual smells, ice, liquids, weather conditions, temperature, and any personal items that may have been left behind. Once the lead detective has been briefed and evaluates the scene him/herself, he/she will then need to determine if consent to search and/or obtaining a search warrant is needed. The scene assessment allows the lead detective
Upon arrival at a crime scene you will need to speak with the lead officer or lead crime scene investigator to find out what allegedly happened at the crime scene. There are certain precautions that are taken at crime scenes to preserve evidence. First you will have to wear protective gear including, hair net, shoe covers, plastic surgical gloves, suits and any other items that are required to prevent scene contamination. This gear will also help protect you against any health hazards that may be located in the crime scene such as blood or tissue contaminates. Before entering a crime scene be sure to look for protective plates that are put in place to
crime scene could be analyzed and compared with a sample from a suspect. A match could place
The challenges and opportunities of using forensic science in television are not new to the development of visual media. In fact, the origin of modern crime fiction is closely connected to the expansion of forensic science. Forensic techniques started being developed in the nineteenth century including; fingerprints, mug shots, crime photography, lie detectors, forensic profiling, and forensic pathology (Kirby, 2012). Forensic science is the utilization of science in both criminal and civil
The reason for wrongdoing scene examination is to set up what happened (wrongdoing scene recreation) and to recognize the capable individual. Through intentionally reporting the conditions at a wrongdoing scene and seeing all pertinent physical confirmation. The ability to see and accumulate the affirmation is basic in disentangling and summoning fierce cases. In the greater part of the cases, the law requirement officer who ensures and seeks the wrongdoing scene has influence in figuring out if the physical proof will utilize as a part of unraveling or indicating the fierce wrongdoing. Wrongdoing scene examination is
I have always loved suspenseful whodunit television shows, movies, and books that use forensic science to crack the cases. My favorite television show is The First 48, my favorite movie is The Silence of the Lambs, and my favorite book is The Body Farm. Therefore, I was excited to have the opportunity to take this course and learn even more about the subject of forensics. This essay gives a summary of N. E. Genge’s book, The Forensic Casebook: The Science of Crime Scene Investigation, and includes the things I disliked and liked about the book.
to see if the suspect is anywhere around then they checked to determine the two
From fictional shows like CSI Miami to real life crime scenes, we have all seen the process it takes to gather forensic evidence. If you haven’t, research has been recently gathered to come up with new and innovative ways to catch a criminal. Whether it be from derelict fields, dark alley ways, or deep sea oceans, many environments can leave behind physical evidence ofn a criminal and victims that crime scene investigators both real and fictional can use to identify and catch the culprit. However, this can be difficult when trying to find the best pieces of evidence to use and detect after analyzing and putting criminal information together.
The purpose of this project is to provide the reader of this paper with a descriptive analysis of an episode of Crime Scene Investigations (C.S.I.). The intent is to show what is provided by the television series of what happens in a crime and what is supposed to happen during a crime scene investigation. The reader should be able to understand during this analysis to what in fact is non-realistic in this television episode and what is reality as determined by what has been researched. This will show what really happens in a crime scene investigations lab.
For processing fingerprints, forensic technicians plac lifting tape on the print. Then they carefully flatten the tape and slowly peel the tape off of the surface, hence lifting the print. After the print is lifted, forensic technicians will than seal the lifted print to keep it from being contaminated.
The primary crime scene provides a very important aspect of the crime and that is presentation. Which is the location, condition, and position of the body in relation to the actual crime scene. This usually allows for the homicide detective to gain crucial information about the crime that took place. This allows for hypothesis early on in the investigation and it allows for the investigator to find information that is either consist with their case or it confirms inconsistency on whether or not the person was murdered there or the body was dumped. “This is especially important in equivocal death investigations, which are open to interpretation. There may be two or more meanings and the case may present as either a homicide or a suicide depending
Each method is important in the proper documenting of a crime scene. “The notes and reports should be done in a chronological order
In forensic surveying, visuals representations are used to reconstruct the crime scene from all the collected and recorded information that serve as evidence (be it in the form text, photographs, sketches; anything that can record the crime scene to the greatest detailing possible is of great value). The crime scene will never remain as it is forever. Changes may happen, so it is important for an investigator to collect all the evidence and record all the information he deems necessary before crime scene officers collect and move the evidences(Crime scene will never be the same) and items of interest. A visual representation of the crime scene is normally presented to the court. It can be a map or a drawing based on the use of traditional
