The Early Years
Dwight David Eisenhower was born on October 14, 1890 in Denison, Texas. He was the third of seven sons from David Jacob and Ida Elizabeth Stover Eisenhower. After his birth the family moved to Abilene, Kansas where Dwight graduated from high school in 1909. He was awarded a scholarship to West Point military academy. He was commisioned a Second Lieutenant upon graduation in September of 1915. After being stationed at Fort Sam Houston, Dwight met Mary (Mamie) Geneva Doud, and they were married on July 1, 1916.
The couple had two sons, Doud Dwight Eisenhower and John Sheldon Doud Eisenhower. Doud Dwight, nicknamed “Little Icky”, was born on September 24, 1917. He died three years later ,on January 2nd,1921,of scarlet fever

Dwight would have to wait to see combat though. The armistice that ended the Great War was signed on November 11, 1918.Thouroughly discouraged having missed World War I, Dwight made the following vow to a friend “By God, from now on I am cutting myself a swath and will make up for this.”
From 1919 to 1920 Dwight served as an instructor at an Infantry Tank School under the direction of one Colonel George S. Patton. Unlike Dwight, Patton had been on the front lines in the War. Ike soaked in the knowledge and experience Patton had to offer and the two formed a close friendship. By 1920 Dwight had achieved the rank of Major.
In 1922, Eisenhower was assigned executive officer to General Fox Conner at Camp Gaillard in the Panama Canal Zone. The hard-nosed Conner challenged Dwight to expand his intellect and because of him Ike began to understand war in societal and global terms.
From 1925 to 1926 he attended Command and General Staff school,Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas, and graduated first in a class of 245.
In 1927, After serving under General John J. Pershing in Washington ,D.C., Dwight entered the Army War college and graduated in June of 1928
He Recieved more tutelage as General Douglas MacArthur’s chief military aide. And in 1935, MacAuthur insisted Eisenhower join him in the Philipines as his chief of staff.. From 1935

George Patton was born in San Gabriel, California in 1885.His father as an officer in the US army so he moved around a lot.George was very intelligent and ambitious but had trouble in school.Since he couldn’t read until the age of 12, some wondered if he had dyslexia.Patton was trying to go to a College called West Point but all openings were filled.He then went to Virginia Military Institute.After only one year at the Institute, there was now a spot open at West point.His math skills had improved within a year and George Patton graduated in 1909.

The main differences from Eisenhower and Truman are that Eisenhower was more concentrated in democracy. Containment was important for Eisenhower but it was not everything while Truman really wanted to put away communist people from the United States.

In 1941, President Roosevelt recruited him to return to his duty in the US army and he was appointed as the Commander of US Army Forces in the Far East to defend Philippine against the Japanese attacks. He was unable to protect Philippines and he was directed to escape to Australia, where he became the supreme commander of Southwest Pacific theatre. Unhappy with his defeat in the Philippines, he began to plan his counterattacks towards Japan and slowly took over all of New Guinea, the Admiralties, western New Britain, and Morotai. Japanese surrendered in 1945 and he was sent to Japan to occupy it until 1951. The Korean War broke out in 1950 and he was appointed as the supreme commander of the Allied Powers. However, in 1951, President Truman and General Macarthur had conflicting policies for Korea and the President relieved him from his duties. In April 1951, he gave his farewell speech to the Congress (Gale Research).
George Patton was a decorated U.S World War II general. Throughout the war he was called upon to win important battles. Patton was an extremely aggressive in his battle tactics, which gave him the ability to win battles that other generals could not. Patton was born into a family with a long military history, Patton decided to carry on that tradition and graduate from West Point in 1909. Patton saw his first battle experience during World War I when he led cavalry troops against Mexican forces. Patton continued his career in WWII and had a very important role. Due to George Patton’s tactics to liberate Nazi territory, he able to win crucial battles and push the Germans back to defeat Hitler.
Introduction Sentence (Eisenhower’s Military Career) Dwight Eisenhower started his military career by applying to West Point, New York or Annapolis, Maryland. Annapolis worked with navy training and West Point was for the army. Eisenhower wanted to go there because the tuition was free. He ended up going to West Point.

The family had moved to Denison from Abilene, Kansas before Dwight had been born, but moved back by the time he was a year and a half old. One of Dwight’s younger brothers, Paul, died of diphtheria at the age of only ten months old when Dwight was four, but this terrifying event did not keep Dwight from having bad childhood memories. Nothing too eventful happened for many years until he graduated high school in 1909. He went straight to work with his father and uncle, and he also worked as a firefighter, for the purpose of paying off his younger brother’s college tuition at the University of Michigan.
