Math has not always been the best subject of mine, but because of this I’m not discouraged. My strengths in math are memorization, interpreting tables and graphs, solving equations, factoring, graphing, and solving quadratics. My weaknesses are analyzing complex information in word problems, probability problems, exponents and polynomials, rational expressions, and sequences. Looking back at this list of my strengths and weaknesses, gives me inspiration to understand each of these concepts. Even my strengths could use work. I hope to be able to understand algebra on a college level. My fear is doing poorly on test or quizzes, which would reflect my grade in an unfortunate matter. My goal for this year in college algebra is to be prepared and
One of my prime examples of both my academic strengths and weaknesses is my performance in math. I have received more than one C in my high school math classes. However, the highest SAT score was my math score. Another weakness I had at times throughout my years of high school was investing too much time socializing As a result, I would not spend enough time doing homework, which affected my test scores causing my grades to be lower than what I preferred. Looking back, I didn't take my classes seriously because I wasn't truly considering going to college until my junior year. Then I knew that I had to get the best grades during my last two years. That year I ended with a C in Pre-Calculus but if I had not reached out to my teachers because I felt lost in the class, stayed after school for one-one-one help, and reached out to friends that had a better understanding of the material, I probably would have failed the class. In college, I plan on strengthening my academic performance by continuing to focus and put effort into my classes, balance classes with my social life, be motivated and
Math was not always difficult for me. It used to be a lot easier because I found that more of the basic math was easier. Now, I still used to basics of math, but i use them in a harder way now using letters and symbols. In middle school, I did struggle because my 7th grade teacher would just give us half sheets of word problems and equations on the thing we learned in the 6th grade. My 8th grade math teacher would give us packets and packets of examples on how to work but he would never teach us or explain how to solve the example problems. Basically, I struggled because it was never really explained to me how to solve equations and why we do that. I have always struggled with negative numbers but recently with khan I have been getting better
For the past three years of my high school career, and now my fourth, I have made it an obligation to continually expand my horizons in regards to math; when I cannot fully grasp an idea or concept, rather than giving up, I relentlessly pursue the idea until it is understood. During freshman year, math did not come easily to me. I was forced to go in early some days because, simply, I did not comprehend the concepts. However, taking initiative with my school work, and constantly working through problems that were difficult can be deemed one of the best decisions I have made. Although my final grade may not have been an
Eisenhower High School has shaped me into the women that I am today. At first, the transfer from private to public middle school was difficult. I did not know what to expect from public schooling. Immediately, I was met with friendly faces and extraordinary teachers. When the time came for me to decide if I would attend a private high school or Eisenhower High School I didn’t hesitate on my decision. Since my first day walking through the newly renovated Eisenhower halls, I knew I had found my home for the next four years.
I've learned to become more attentive and conscientious of my weaknesses. I use my strength of persistence and diligence to resolve problems I find to be arduous. Two years ago, I was not meticulous, but now I've learned that every detail counts. It is not only about working hard, but it's also about working smart. It's about acknowledging my weaknesses and toiling until they are no longer my weaknesses. Math homework was never at the top of my priority list, but after identifying that as an obstacle in my success, I immediately altered the way I approached it. Math homework routinely became the first task I set out to finish when I arrived home. If there were extra assignments, I always finished them. Receiving a test that's covered with red marks, meant that I needed to understand what I did wrong. I started reaching out to my teachers and peers for their help and support. We created catchy chants for topics like Domain and Range. Overall, I would not have passed if I looked at my failure as a defeat rather than a delay and my goal as an outcome rather than a learning
Lonestar College is the first college that I study in the United States. Everything is new and completely different from my hometown but especially it is very impressive. It was very difficult for me to integrate and to properly handle everything, Lonestar College has helped me a lot, and since then Lonestar College has become very close to me as a second home.
Furthermore, I realized that this semester was going to be particularly challenging because of the Pre-calculus and Calculus hybrid course I had enrolled in; math has not always been my best subject and taking a fast-tracked math course was sure to be disastrous. Nevertheless, I was determined to make A’s in all my classes. After the first week of classes, I could already feel myself becoming overwhelmed with the amount of work I had to do in such a short amount of time. Not to mention, how disappointed I felt in myself when I received my first quiz grade for my pre-calculus class, I had bombed the quiz terribly by making a 65.
I would like to attend Notre Dame High School because notre Dame High School will help me expand my horizons, further my education, and help me take my passions to the next level.
First, I would like to some way give the personal opinion of which and what really differs mathematics from other subject text. It is a challenging and a difficult question to answer because in my case, I would say reading mathematics text and understand easily would not the same for everyone. I think different from person to person and it is not easy like others regular subject to manage very fast. Because it containing more per sentence and paragraph than any other type of text. They also have specified and written in a very different compact style and each written sentence contended a lot of complicated information, such as words like numeric numbers and non-numeric numbers, symbols, codes, formulas, and continent of the information pages that also laid out in different patterns than the traditional left-to-right of the most reading. Therefore, every math’s text passage would need a lot of time
I am a math major, I love and excel at math, and I failed my first algebra test. I know of many people who hate math, who struggled with math, who could not get past algebra, no matter how hard they tried. Yet we cannot blame them—and we cannot blame algebra either. I got past that test and I passed the class, and algebra has helped me in countless ways, and it has made me a better student. It is the responsibility of schools to prepare students for the working world, to prepare them to be a thoughtful, skillful, and knowledgeable member of our society. Some people mistake a lack of technical, specific abilities as a weakness, but the focus on general knowledge like algebra allows for a breadth of tools to be opened up for students to learn in the future. Schools should teach students to reason abstractly, to acquire skills to be used in many contexts, and to learn to solve practical problems. Algebra does this.
The first things you should know about algebra are, of course, the basics. First: Don’t be afraid to ask your tablemates for help. They are a valuable recourse when you just don’t understand something, however even though just getting the answers from them sounds like a good idea, it really doesn’t give you the information that you need to help you in the long run. Second: Professor Burger is going to be your best friend. Seriously, all you have to do is go to the Holt
In Algebra I have improved slightly ever since the beginning of 8th grade. Algebra is still kind of hard for me, yet I still manage to get a fairly decent grade of an 86%. For me, I do really good in homework assignments. I get mostly A's and B's and rarely C's. When it comes to tests and quizzes, that's a whole different story. So far I’ve mostly gotten C's but I recently took a test and got an A which made me really proud of
Two years ago, I was in a school named Invest and I had problems with that school. Invest did not teach good English language. Fitzgerald was different when I moved into it. Fitzgerald has more educated teacher and has better teaching skills. I’m going to tell you the differences between Invest school and Fitzgerald high school. Even though they are different, but they are both school who has different teaching and different building and lunch room. Each school has its own educational teaching and its own way of style of education. The bigger school and the small school who has less materials for school.
In the next few centuries, many ideas and procedures for algebra were developed by the Islamic mathematicians. (Katz, 2007, p.192). In the twelfth and thirteenth centuries, Islamic algebra spread to Europe. It was still in the static equation-solving phase. In the sixteenth century, the work of Italian mathematicians brought a major advancement in mathematics. They found new methods to solve equations. (Katz, 2007, p.193). In the seventeenth century, the point of view in algebra was greatly changed. Because the mathematicians have also begun questioning about the equation problems not just finding solutions. (Katz, 2007, p.194). Later in the eighteenth century, the development in mathematics changed the notion of algebra. (Katz, 2007, p.196).
Math has been hard for me most of the time because I sometimes don't understand problems that the teachers give me. I might also not understand math because of the way that the teachers teach it. I struggle in middle school because I didn't really learn a lot of math. Our teacher didn't really teach us anything the whole 8 grade year. In 7 grade, our math teacher left the school and we didn't really have a math teacher after that. He left right befor the middle of the year. In the past I gave up when problems were too hard because I did not even know how to start the problem. Almost all of the math problems were too hard in the past because I did not know how to do them. I would try to complete the problem for like 5
