The United Arab Emirates is one of the most important tourist destinations in the region. The Arab spring had a very minor effect on the country’s tourism as it did not have a revolution but tourists in countries such as the Americas and Eastern Asia and some European countries were still slightly worried to visit any Arab country as it could be hit by the domino effect of the Arab Spring. UAE is not a neighboring country of any of the countries that had revolutions but it is in the same region.
Tourism in Egypt
Egypt is known to be the number one tourist destination in the Middle East and North Africa. It has been for years and obviously this is because of its ancient Pharos history, and pyramids in Giza and other historical sites and Luxor and all over the country has attracted tourists from around the world and for many years to visit these attractions that were built around 7000 years ago. Egypt’s tourism now is not just about cultural about heritage but it also has sun, sea and sand tourism on its beautiful beaches on both seas, the Mediterranean and the red sea. Egypt’s tourism is also very popular with its Nile cruises from Alexandria to the Upper Egypt of Luxur and Aswan via the capital Cairo.
Revolution’s impacts on Egypt’s tourism
“Egypt’s revolution has scared away millions of foreign tourists, the lifeblood of the nation’s economy, and now this ancient kingdom of tombs resembles a
Ancient civilizations and empires have captured the eye and attention of historians for hundreds of years. From the lost civilization of Alexandria to the ever-present myth of Atlantis (fact or fiction?), history that has grown has caught the eye of many. Particularly, Ancient Egypt seems as rich in history and secrets as Greece or Rome. Egypt and modern day America don’t hold as many similarities as one might think, but they seem entangled together regardless of differences.
Egypt is still a nation of wonder, history, enchantment, and lost human ingenuity. Many aspects of Egypt remain a mystery, but slowly some secrets are coming to light. Going through history to its foundations and remnants, there is much to be learned and understood. Though the boundary lines of Egypt are quite large, the vast majority of its citizens live compacted along the Nile River. Egypt is most renowned for its life flowing river, its Pyramids, Pharaohs, and its distinct religious worship. Looking underneath the majestic artwork, and the thriving life, is another aspect of Egypt where one discovers the struggles of its past. Yet this inner turmoil within Egypt’s history is part of the lure that attracts many to learn about its ancient
I enjoyed reading your post this week, too. I agree with you with “the group (al Qaeda) has lost their ability to sway the minds of the Arab youth for recruitment purposes.” That is very true that other Islamist terrorist lost their influenza on the region, too. This shows that people showed their willingness and men of goodwill for a more democratic regime. Didn’t they?
For more than 2000 years, egypt was one of the richest and most civilized lands in the ancient world. Much of what we know about this great civilization has been learned from its art and architecture. In particular, the ruins of tombs and temples have provided a valuable record of Egyptian life.
Tourism is mainly from Egypt being famous for ancient monuments like Pyramids and the Sphinx. There are four main pyramids. These are the Pyramid of Khafre, the Great Pyramid of Giza, the Pyramid of Djoser and the Sphinx. The Pyramid of Djoser is considered the oldest pyramid from ancient Egypt; it was built for pharaoh Djoser.
Another reason why the arab spring occurred was because of unemployment. Due to the significant rise in population over the years, and government’s inability to create jobs, many grew frustrated and poor as a result of these conditions. The middle east has also had a very unstable political groups constantly taking over power. From religious extremists groups to leftists groups. Because of the common land that all endured political instability, many revolutionists from all over the Middle East were able to unite on certain common ideology and citations. Needles to say, the unemployment that overwhelmed the middle east was able to unite upset civilians all over the arab world which is why the Arab Spring was as great as it was.
The realm of ancient Egypt has been a world of mystery and excitement for almost 800 years. Commonly misinterpreted by Hollywood and fiction writers alike, Egypt was a thriving kingdom and was as ancient to the romans as the Roman Empire is to us. “The Egyptians were head of their time” (Troolin), they built many of the great wonders of the world that still stand today. What most fail to realize is that Egypt was not only ahead architecturally, but economically and politically as well.
Egypt is one of the most beautiful countries. It is the oldest tourist destination on earth. Nowadays, tourism is one of the most important industries and it is the leader in providing new jobs to decrease the unemployment rate. It involves a range of organizations, businesses and government agencies working together complementary to each other. After January 25th, the rates of tourism has decreased in Egypt due to many reasons. It has been proven that tourist’s number has fallen from 14 million in 2010 to 10.2 million in 2013. According to (Tourism in Egypt: A slow recovery- CNN.com) “The world Economic Forum has just declared Egypt one of the most dangerous places on earth for tourists. The report puts Egypt above Yemen and Pakistan in
The 2011 Arab Spring act started in Egypt and Tunisia, which later inspired Syrian’s to take to the streets and demonstrate against Assad. Syrians all over voiced their unhappiness with the stagnant political process and were advocating for new democratic reforms. A person who has been forced to leave their country in order to escape war, persecution, or natural disaster is what we call a Refugee, but with the current war on Terrorism/ISIS it is hard to distinguish whether they are really refugees or working with ISIS. More than four million refugees of the Syrian Civil war have fled Syria, and left to neighboring countries such as Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq, Turkey, and some even ended up in the Persian Gulf, Europe, and North Africa. The
Going beyond Katy Perry’s music video, Ancient Egypt is seen as an exotic place in contemporary tourism of Egypt. Many people go to Ancient Egypt because they know that there are geographical differences, mummies, pyramids, tombs and artifacts that seem foreign to many people living in the 21st century. In popular culture, Ancient Egypt seems like a lavish civilization in the middle of the desert. In many ways, the Ancient Egyptian culture draws in tourism for those who are curious about the Ancient Egyptian culture. They come into Egypt as tourists with preconceived notions about what Egypt is like, exacerbated by the misrepresentations from media. “Foreign Egypt: Egyptology and the Concept of Culture Appropriation”, written by Thomas Schneider, a researcher from The University of British Columbia , states, “Ancient Egypt cut off from the outside world…was able to develop and flourish on its own and consequently stuck to the traditions of its historical identity” (Schneider, 2003). This concept of Ancient Egypt’s isolation addded to the exoticism because it was cut off from the rest of the world. This created a sense of mystery and a land of unknowing. This unknowing of another culture, is one way for people to misrepresent a culture, because they make generalizations and statements without actually having information about the culture. These generalizations are the catalysts for assumptions and cultural barriers because they are rooted in bias, and are through the lens of
While some of Egypt’s ancient traditions remain evident, modern Egypt has evolved greatly due to influences of immigrants from the surrounding Arab countries. Visitors to Egypt usually notice that Egyptian people are mild mannered and polite, mostly as a result of their religious principles. Understanding Egyptian customs and culture will definitely benefit tourists during their stay in Egypt.
In these 3 paragraphs I will be informing you about Egypt what happens how it happens and who does it.i will be giving you information on Khufu's great pyramid, The great pyramid, Grave robbers, and inside the tombs.
The current research paper covers the main effects of global tourism, both positive and negative. International tourism is a significant sector of business. For some countries it is one of the main sources of national income. The most important positive economic effects of tourism are as follows: increase in budget revenues, production expansion, stimulation of investments, and improvement in the population’s welfare. Tourism influences social and cultural lives of people in a positive way by stimulating the development and revival of local cultures and encouraging intercultural exchange.
Most countries affected by the civil wars have been cut off from any regional connections therefore they weren’t able to attract many of their regular customers. The UAE has taken that to their advantage by reeling in the customers who would normally shop in Egypt, Syria, Tunisia, Libya and Yemen and give them the opportunity to shop in places in the UAE instead of in a dangerous country. This has led to a 10% rise in spending by shoppers affected by the Arab Spring. The United Arab Emirates is known as a modern country with a stable government system that the public seems to respect. Governments from different countries such as Syria have shut down Internet and power connections to avoid the world to see the troublesome county. Because of these barricades, countries such as the United States and England have been keeping a close eye, especially since they cannot export and import products between countries. Perhaps the Middle East would’ve been better off without the Arab Spring.
Egypt is a great country to visit as well as obtain knowledge upon. Egyptians are very friendly and helpful so a tourist would not have to worry about being treated unfairly. They pride themselves on family values and traditions always looking out for and helping one another. In so many ways their culture is not that much different from that of the United States. Their culture thrives around
