Week 7 Discussion Write a 3- to 5-paragraphs critique of the article. In your critique, include responses to the following: The article selected for the purpose of this week’s discussion is titled “A new software for carrying out one-way ANOVA post hoc tests” and the objective of this study was to develop a convenient, easy to use stand-alone program to statistically process experimental data as described by Brown, (2005). Critique The research designed that was utilized was the one- way ANOVA to gauge and determine the effects when it comes to one’s level of education/degree within their personal lifestyle as well as the view from the family perception considering their age and income. According to (Meyers, Gamst, & Guarino, 2006), The ANOVA test point is to weigh and determine the components and elements on whether variables are created or not in the relationships. With that being said, the research results showcased the crucial and imperative evidence of the relationship amongst the variables. Therefore, it is safe to say in my opinion that the resulting outcome and the relationship can indeed be moderately considered as either predetermined or significantly associated. Keeping that in mind, there is a possibility indicated that the results can be examined because of the partial relation to the variables. For example, this stems from the out such as F= {115. 172, 0} (higher value) as well as being near the MS value, equating to 242.112. According to (Brown, 2005), another evolution test was conducted using the Turkey HSD to distinguish the level of degree and marital status of the individuals to provide the differences and the relationships establishments. With that being said, the test resulted that the mean score was 3.25126, the standard deviation being 1.66825 for the degree within education while the mean for marriage status was 2.148241 and the standard deviation was 1.19218. Therefore, the results show that there was a difference in relationships with the two datasets. Finally, the research resulted in a pattern that can be correlated to determine the marriage status within the individuals in comparison to the education status. Keeping in mind it also indicated the need to establish the changes when it comes to the perception of marriage as well as the belief system. The objective of this study was to develop a convenient, easy to use stand-alone program to statistically process experimental data. The method involves user input of data for analysis into a grid format, followed by one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) of the data to determine the F ratio. If the value of the F ratio is greater than the appropriate critical F distribution at alpha=0.05, the null hypothesis is rejected, it is assumed that at least one of the group means is significantly different from the other group means, and it is valid to proceed with post hoc testing. A choice of four post hoc tests is available: Dunnett's, Fisher's, Scheffé's or Tukey's. The results of the post hoc test are displayed and can be printed for record keeping. The methodology developed in this present study should help scientists to carry out post hoc comparisons quickly and easily without the expense or time that commercial statistical packages require.
Which is the research design used by the authors? As identified by Brown (2005), the research design adopted during the study is a one-way analysis of variance known as ANOVA. Initially, the user has computed some values of data into the appropriate grid format before utilizing one-way ANOVA. Why did the authors use ANOVA test? I believed the author adopted ANOVA test in the research because he aimed to create a conducive and effective method to conduct research in a statistical manner in such a way that the input of data for analysis is formed into a grid format, followed by one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) of the data to determine the F ratio. Do you think it’s the most appropriate choice? Why or why not? As a public health professional and future researcher, in my opinion, I agree that the author utilized the most appropriate choice as regard the article research as the variance compared was more than two variance groups. The variances considered by the author are the marital status and the level of degree of the fellows to create the differences and the relationships to be established, this data was gathered from TURKEY HSD. Did the authors display the data? As identified by Brown (2005) data displayed are as follows. Mean (level of education): 3.25126, Standard Deviation (level of education): 1.66825, Mean- (marital status): 2.148241, Standard Deviation (marital status): 1.19218 Do the results stand alone? Why or why not? No, did not stand alone as the result was dependent on the outcome of other variance because the variables are related. Did the authors report the effect size? If yes, is this meaningful? The author did not report the effect size in the article. References Brown, A. M. (2005). New software for carrying out one-way ANOVA post hoc tests.
