Kirstie Davidson SPD-556 Professor Steelman Clinical Field Experience A: Understanding Formal and Informal Assessments in the Classroom March 17, 2024
After speaking with Mrs. Davidson an Autism 1 st grade teacher I learned about the different type of informal and formal assessments are the same though out the school system just for parent and young children it seem more overwhelming because it is the first time a student gets tested and is more in depth than other students. Mrs. Davidson teacher all subjects in her classroom so the types of assessments she uses is growth of the IEP goals and curricular content, for her school district they use Unique Learning Assessments for her formal assessments. These assessments are done the beginning of the year to see where the student is incoming into her classroom. Informal assessment would be working one on one with the student of the goal and gauging the student progress. A formal assessment in social behavior in the classroom, Mrs. Davidson will do a social story and use visuals for measurement. All formal assessments Mrs. Davidson does the test for her student throughout the day this helps the student be able to take breaks when needed and feel drained during the test and the student can reset and return to finish the test. Unique Learning also tracks the data and progress that she has seen in her students. Which she can use the information to help with writing her IEP for that student. She will also use the goals to help with the IEP as well. Mrs. Davidson keeps her parent informed about the students day by an app to be able to communicate with the students parent so that they know what their child is going through out the day. She does a lot of modeling in area it first she does, they do and you do so that the students get more hands one learning. Informal Assessment that Mrs. Davidson does is observing the students throughout the day it could be from going outside and walking the track, or passing the basketball seeing if a student is able to do it. Even watching the student being able to watch the student write on a piece of paper and how a student holds the pencil, using the scissors, and coloring in the lines
