Instructions to Student
General Instructions:
This practical task is required to be carried out over two occasions.
In total there are three (3) parts to complete.
Part 1
– Safety is to be carried out over two separate occasions.
Part 2
is the first occasion.
Part 3
is the second occasion.
You are to calculate power consumptions. You will be supplied with a cus-
tomer brief. You are to research manufacturers specs, pricing, tools, and other equipment required to carry out the works. The final project will be to submit a detailed solution for the customers based on the customer brief provided.
Your customers brief (request) is from two separate customers (one for each occasion).
Prior to commencing the practical tasks, you are to attend a briefing ses-
sion with your assessor and follow instructions provided throughout the practical activity.
The three (3) parts of this assessment include:
Part 1 – Complete a risk assessment of the training room
In this activity you are to ensure all WHS requirements are being met prior to commencing the practical tasks.
Part 2 – Estimating power consumption of a Wi-Fi Access system
In this activity you are to follow the schedule of work (Work Instruction), and research the product. Your sales team is preparing a quote for the customer, and they have asked that you carry out power consumption re-
quirement to ensure that the proper equipment is to be quoted.
Research the identified PoE and Dual band access points
Calculate the power consumption for the PoE access points (using the table below)
Report on any suggested changes to the clients’ requests
Document your reasons to support your proposed suggestions
Part 3 – Estimating power consumption of a 12volt battery powered lighting system
In this activity you are to follow the schedule of work (Work Instruction), and research the product. Your sales team is preparing a quote for the customer, and they have asked that you carry out power consumption re-
quirement to ensure that the proper equipment is to be quoted.
Calculate the power consumption for the Lighting (using the table below)

Observation Questions
Your assessor will also ask a number of questions to evaluate your understanding of the practical tasks you are required to demonstrate. Your responses to these questions will be recorded.
Time Allowed:
4 hours
You must attend a project briefing prior to commencing the practical tasks and follow instructions given by your assessor during the practical activity. Materials and Equipment to be Supplied by the Student:
Blue pen and paper.
Work, Health and Safety: Follow all TAFE Queensland Work Health and Safety requirements as advised by your assessor.

You will receive up to two (2) attempts at this assessment task. Should your 1
st
attempt be unsatisfactory (U), your teacher will provide feedback and will arrange a date for your 2
nd
attempt. If your 2
nd
attempt is unsatisfactory (U), or you fail to attend on the date scheduled for the 2
nd
attempt, you will receive an overall unsatisfactory result for this assessment task. Only one re-assessment attempt may be granted for each assessment task.

To achieve a satisfactory result, your assessor will be looking for your ability to demonstrate the key skills/tasks/knowledge detailed in the Observation Checklist to an acceptable industry standard.
How to complete work and reporting on calculated solutions
How to perform calculations to solve electrotechnology problems
How to identify problems in written and diagrammatic form
How to solve problems using appropriate fundamental calculations

Instructions to Assessor
Assessors must hold credentials specified within the Standards for Regis-
tered Training Organisations current at the time of assessment. Assessment must satisfy the Principles of Assessment and Rules of Evi-
dence and all regulatory requirements included within the Standards for Registered Training Organisations current at the time of assessment.
Assessment must occur in suitable workplace operational situations where
it is appropriate to do so; where this is not appropriate, assessment must occur in simulated suitable workplace operational situations that replicate workplace conditions.
Assessment processes and techniques must be appropriate to the lan-
guage, literacy and numeracy requirements of the work being performed and the needs of the candidate.
Resources for assessment must include access to:
a range of relevant exercises, case studies and/or simulations
relevant and appropriate materials, tools, facilities and equipment currently used in industry
applicable documentation, including workplace procedures, equipment specifications, regulations, codes of practice and operation manuals.
Note to Student
An overview of all Assessment Tasks relevant to this unit is located in the Unit Study Guide. Your Assessor will provide a printed copy of the JSEA for you to complete task A. You will also be supplied to D-Link manuals.
