Heffernan stated that we as individuals have to resist the neurological drive and find ways to engage with
others that come from different backgrounds, experiences, disciplines, and ways of thinking. This will take patience and lots of energy. We have to see it as thinking and become good at it. (Heffernan, 2012) In the healthcare industry, you definitely have to be open minded and a critical thinker. We will not always get to work and or collaborate with others who think the same way. It is important to acknowledge other people’s ways of thinking due to their backgrounds. We will always face conflict at some point in our professional careers and we should know how to handle it even when it is uncomfortable.
Engaging in critical conflict is important as it can provide opportunities for us to make the best possible decisions in each situation. Conflict allows for new ideas and or opinions of everyone involved in making the decision.
