AP ART HISTORY AP EXAM REVIEW PRACTICE ATTRIBUTION OF UNKNOWN WORKS WITH JUSTIFICATIONS
Prepare for the AP’s Attribution Questions The AP Art History exam will ask you to identify unknown artworks through both multiple choice questions, and in the format of a short answer question (SAQ) in the FRQ portion. These unknown works are always connected to or related to the 250 works that you have been studying all year. In other words, the AP will show you an artwork that is part of a style you have already learned about, or a work by an artist you have already learned about. They are not trying to trick you! But, they do want to assess your knowledge. This PowerPoint will show you an unknown artwork, and will ask you to attribute it to the artist / time period / culture / style / AP required work that it belongs to or is most similar to.
How to Use this PowerPoint Use it to assess your own knowledge in two ways! Click through the slides – only the works that are unknown will be visible. Make your attribution guess – what artist/culture/style is this most similar to? Based on the unknown image, what AP image do they make you think of? In the PowerPoint notes below the slides, you will see the correct answer. Did you guess the correct AP image? If so, great! You are practicing the skill of attribution! Now, let’s describe HOW you knew the right answer. What visual qualities (form or content) of the unknown work reminded you of the AP required work? Some answers can be found in the notes section of this PowerPoint.
