Module Two Question 1 Describe one of the beliefs and values of the Navajo as illustrated in your readings. The Navajo people believe that "talking things out is the greatest route to issue solving." To achieve this, they have a Peacemakers court. The court takes into consideration the motivation and reasoning as to why a crime was committed. A discussion is then had to determine a solution. Module Two Question 2 Describe one way in which the Navajo have incorporated their beliefs and values into the societal structure on the reservation since regaining some autonomy in the 1970's. Medicinal healing and ceremonies are very important to the values and beliefs of the Navajo people, so they have incorporated them into their society's framework. While modern medicine is used, patients have the option of traditional healing methods. "Navajo healers do not only provide medical services for their communities but spiritual and cultural guidance as well." Module Two Question 3 What beliefs and values can be found in your culture? How do these beliefs and values influence your day-to-day life? The value of family and friends is an important belief in my society. I've grown up learning not to take advantage and appreciate our time together. I have a small family and try to remember and incorporate this into my daily life. I am in constant communication with my family and best friends and want to be sure they know how important they are to me. Module Two Question 4 Adopt the social science perspective to create a list of questions about this issue. Write at least two questions each from the point of view of a psychologist, a sociologist, and an anthropologist. 1. How might a person's culture affect how they view death? 2. What are different traditions and ceremonies surrounding death in various cultures? 3. How are family members expected to mourn their loved one once they've passed? 4. How does the concept of death in various cultures affect how people live their everyday life? 5. Do people believe that their actions on earth affect what will happen to them once they pass away? 6. Has the view on death changed in America over the last 100 years?
