Comment lines: The challenges of introducing new technology
Skill Level: Introductory Andre Tost (andretost@us.ibm.com) Senior Technical Staff Member IBM
06 Oct 2010 Technologies that are new to an organization present a number of issues simply because they are new. Such issues are rarely addressed properly or sufficiently, if at all. The lack of a formal process for introducing new technology into an IT environment is one of the biggest challenges faced by companies looking to leverage new products. Here is a look at how you can plan for introducing new technologies -including new software, new systems, new versions of existing software and systems, and more -- to ensure the proper technical teams and governance mechanisms are

these goals. • A possible future trend that might lead to equally large numbers of new technologies and products is the concept of cloud computing, just to name one last example. Another trigger for new technology can come from the lines of business in an enterprise. New business requirements might arise that result in the need for technology that an IT organization currently does not support. Examples for the technologies that have to be introduced to the IT landscape in those cases are portals, multi-channel architectures, or business rule systems.
A lifecycle for new technology
Despite the wide variety of new technologies (as defined above) and just as many possible triggers for these technologies, you can still define a common lifecycle that all technologies share. The lifecycle described in Table 1 is such an example; there are many variations but all would include these same major aspects: Table 1. Sample technology lifecyle
Stage Introduced Description A technology or product is brought into an organization for the first time. This is when various groups get to take a first look at the technology, often testing its use in the form of a proof of concept. Initial planning has been conducted for the technology to go into production in support of a business solution, which will act as a pilot. The planning
There are several emerging technologies that could help the company to gain a competitive advantage.
Firstly, planning stage should discover what new technologies each employees of the organization utilizes as a part of their IT sectors. A quick survey should be possible to gather the information about what technology devices which best suits them and give them the most advantage. Processes that are less useful can be dropped or enhanced for efficiency.
There is an opportunity for upgrading the technology in the IT infrastructure as a result of the extensive research and development investment that the organization is considering. AEnergy has such a unique product, that there is little in
I. Concept Stage - Client Representative or CEO meets with Product Manager to describe big picture the goals for end product for spec generation.
The technology is the revolution to all industries it takes a wide variety of services into every industry in one way or the other, from cell phone service to software services, to medical services such as imaging to electronically medical records are just to name a few items on how technology has expanded and used every day.
Each team will identify and explore an emerging technology. This will be a technology that may already exist, but is drawing attention because of new applications, anticipated impacts or potential controversies. Examples could include:
Technological factors – New technologies may create new products and new processes (Company Regulations.com; 2011). Technology will reduce cost, improve quality and lead to innovation. Developments such as Wi-Fi hotspot in the mini buses, MP3 players, online devices
Once an employee begins employment with a company he or she must first go through completion of the internship program. During the program the employee has a very important briefing that he or she completed on time, and then presented to the CEO of the company. The guidelines required to complete the briefing assignment consist of the explaining in detail the selection process, and how it was affected by the goals of the organization and stakeholders. The briefing will explain the process needed for selecting and acquiring an information system and how the goals of an organization can drive the selection of the system. The briefing will identify
Old entities, relics of the past, can often hold value and insights into the future. Books are an especially good source of knowledge about the future. There are many literary examples of books that dissect the human psyche to the point of being able to predict possible scenarios and conflicts. The novel Brave New World, written by Aldous Huxley, is an eerie example of a book with prophetical potential. As each year passes this world is becoming increasingly more similar to the world in Aldous Huxley’s novel.
The entire world in Brave New World is united as the World State, governed by ten World Controllers. The entire world is run by these select people. In Brave New World technology plays a huge roll in the standards of life, and provides a 'perfect' world. Technology, which has brought mankind from the Stone Age to the 21st century, can also ruin the lives of people. In Brave New World, Huxley shows us what technology can do if we exercise it too much. Humans can lose humanity if we rely on technology too much. The world Huxley created is a working utopian society that doesn't have disease, war, problems, crisis but it's also a sad society with no feelings, emotions or human characteristics. There can be no 'utopia' because there cannot be a
In the novel Brave New World, it tells you that technology controls humans (also government controls) from the time they are in the test tube. Technology is so advanced that they can make you highly intelligent or not intelligent while you are still an embryo. Mr. Foster says (chapter 1, pg. 14) “The lower the caste the shorter the oxygen.” This means that one cannot have control over their own intelligence. You cannot try your best, or do more work because your intelligence is pre planed. Also, there is no choice as to whether one will allow technology to think for them, because their intelligence is chosen when one is an embryo.
Over the years, technology has become a major part for a business and for an individual as well. Technology has become so advance that it has made a major effect for the staff as well as for the customers. New technology has helped in many areas such as data and information storage, advertising, transportation and communication.
Given that the development of new systems can be fraught with problems and delays, there are many factors that drive organisations to develop new systems. The most important drives come directly from the companies needs and are often not related to technology, but however to technological solutions, these include:
These technologies grow and develop within the company over time, and are utilized in successive products. The collective body of the company's technology experience broadens with the emergence of every new product. This broadened experience has turned out to be the base for appraising the "incremental newness" of the technology personified in the subsequent new product.
4. Development: The development stage is where the company 's creates specifications of the product, the design, and prototypes. It is also in this stage that the company considers manufacturing constraints.
