Introduction
Subject “Chris” is a 7 year old middle class Caucasian male. Observation is taking place in the child’s home over the course of two separate afternoons. Chris is a friendly and well spoken child who is small for his age. Chris is the youngest child in his family and both observations take place while his siblings are home. In each case one or both parents are absent.
First Hour of Observation
The first hour of observation takes place on a Saturday afternoon. Chris is in his living room with three of his older siblings. Though they are all in the living room together, Chris is engaged in play by himself. He is content playing alone until he needs help fastening a small, slightly complicated harness onto a stuffed toy. He seeks

The children “scold” the toy for poor behavior such as barking at the other toys or cutting in line several times. As they continue to play, Chris begins to pretend to be the animals. He imitates the sounds the animals would make if they were real (dog barks, cat meows) but also gives each animal a distinctive human voice.
The family’s pet dog comes over to investigate and the children laugh when the real animal knocks a few of the toys over. They attempt to coerce the dog to play with them but quickly give up when she fails to follow directions as well as their imaginary animals do. “A” leaves the game and Chris continues to play, arranging the stuffed animals as if they were his audience.
Eventually he loses interest in his games and joins “A” on the couch to look on as she plays on a tablet. He sits next to her but is upside down with his feet in the air, as if he were pedaling and imaginary bicycle. He tells an amusing though completely inaccurate story about how babies are made. His older siblings who are still in the room raise eyebrows at each other in amusement but don’t correct him. Shortly following this exchange the first hour of observation comes to an end.
Second Hour of Observation
I chose to focus specifically on Chris’s interaction with his siblings for the second observational period. As the second hour begins Chris is sitting at a child sized table in his living room playing with Legos.
The “Toy Paper” is a research paper assignment for Child Development which we are to complete an in-depth analysis of the usefulness of a specific toy of our choice. The toy itself will be evaluated by three various stages in relation to cognitive, developmental, social and cultural perspective in addition to discussing topics which relate to the toy and its possible use by the child. The toy I have chosen for my topic to write about is the “Laugh & Learn Smart Stages Puppy” which is a toy designed by Fisher Price for children ranging in age 6 to 36 months it contains 50+ sing along songs, tunes and phrases. A testimonial by a parent stated, “the interactive components of the puppy are engaging, the songs are fun and the different levels allow

I had the wonderful opportunity to observe my little brother, Joseph – or as he is most commonly known within my family, Jo-Jo. This hilarious little boy – who once approached me wearing my cats’ toy tunnel, carrying a sock in one hand and a fidget spinner in the other, told me that I could not join him in his play because “[I] did not give [him] any monies” – is now the focus of my paper. Before I delve into this observation summary, I would to give a little insight that is Joseph David Stirling. While conducting this observation, Joe shared with me that he was going to have a “new baby brother”. His name? Well, of course his name is going to also be Joseph David Stirling. I wanted to share this because, as you will see, he is such an interesting
The child was observed during two sessions, in her house where he was with his younger brother and his mother, at the time of observation his father was working.
I observed Lou for about twenty minutes on Monday, March 13th, 2017 and about forty-five minutes on Thursday March 16th, 2017. On Monday, Lou was involved in a lot of different activities with her classmates because it was play time. When I first walked into the classroom she was playing with the dollhouse with two other classmates. As I was sitting at the table with Sam to find out what she was making Lou told me about the new student they have in the classroom, her name, and how she is unable to speak English, but can understand it. After Lou told me about the new student she started playing cars with her. On Thursday, I came to observe Lou and Sam play the math game and complete the math worksheets I brought with me. Before they could participate in the activities I brought they had to
The kind of observations that was used is “Running Records”. The place is Desert Sky Mall in the play area in the middle section of halls. The time it took place is on Saturday afternoon. This is the time chosen, because there are many families at the mall during the weekend hours. The respect I show for the families is by sitting back in the seats provided for the public, and not interfering with any interactions that were happening between the child and father. Also, being respectful, by not being biases or judgmental towards actions that were being observed. The description of the observation is between a small child around the age of two years and his father. Also, other children that were in the play area, that interacted with the young
When they passed the living room and saw the beautiful Christmas tree and the presents under it. “Was I asleep when mommy and daddy did the tree?” “Yea you were knocked out I tried to wake you up but you just wouldn’t. I tried like 10 times, you wouldn’t budge. We did it 2 days ago, I think.” “Oh I didn’t feel anything, the only thing I felt was
“Okay,” said Art, now this was something his old body could handle. They played all day and into the evening, Spritz mostly asked truth questions, seeming to pick up that Art had a hard time doing some of her dares. However, Art asked little Spritz to do just about every dare possible, lick a tree, swim in the pond across the meadow, and he even made her do barrel rolls down a hill. They had a fabulous time playing Truth or Dare, but Art, the tired and elderly wombat, decided that it was about time to go to bed. Spritz was so disappointed that she started whimpering.
Morning time when parents drop their children most of children start cry. When Christoph enters the class he does not cry. He looks toward me and smile. His teacher gives him breakfast. He sits on a chair and start eating his breakfast. One child drop his spoon he picks up the spoon under the table and give it to the child. After breakfast he start playing with blocks. He makes a car from blocks and says this looks like my dad car. He starts to roll the blocks car on the floor and says I am going to the office I am a daddy. He makes the cell phone from blocks than he pretends he is dialing a number. He says hello mom when your are coming to pick me up because I miss you.He takes the toy stethoscope and the toy dog he says the dog is sick. He pretends that he is
Simon Says is a great game for getting children to listen carefully before they respond. When they know the rules, it is fun to play.
Then he starts to imagine scenarios of when he would get in trouble except he plays the parent and he makes a voice for the kid named David. "No hitting, David" now the other character, "Okay mommy" Since he has no one to play with at home his age he just creates different characters that are about his age and makes different scenarios.
(Child B is Child A ’s friend, this little boy is the child she (Child A) seeks out, it is the one she plays with on a more consistent basis.) Child A was in the puppet center with Child B when observer arrived, they were reenacting “The Three Little Pigs”. Child A was playing the role of all three pigs, and Child B was the wolf. They reenacted and reinvented Nursery Rhymes for about 15 minutes.
It was just another normal day in my living room with my two older brothers, Troy and Roy. They were twins, yet they could never agree on anything, always butting heads over the most meaningless tasks. Both of them were sitting in front of the TV, holding onto a controller as they tapped away. I was sitting on the couch to the side, waiting for my turn. We did have a third controller, since neither of them wanted to share theirs with me, but the system only had two slots.
Teddy had been carrying and pushing around the wooden block toy (with the different contraptions on every side of the block). Teddy and Ellen were pulling the toy back and forth between each other. Teddy would make his frustration face as they pulled but Teddy gave up and went to go play somewhere else after Ellen kept pulling.
"James, please sit down." She says trying to calm the wild boy running around the tent. "I don't wanna." Arianna glared at him. "You don't want me to get Taylor in her." All the children were scared of Taylor. Arianna used this to her advantage. "Mrs. Ari, how long have you been friends with Taylor?" One of the little girls ask. "Um, let's not get off track children. First thing is reading, we have found some copies of books but you will have to share." The children groan but group together. "Okay, Old Yeller is about?" She ask. "A dog." One of the kids say. "Correct. A dog." She smiles
