Nurses Starting Off As a CNA In a lot of people’s minds the Certified Nursing Assistant is the backbone of the facility. Employers that have good and hard-working certified nursing assistants tend to have happier residents. On top of that, it is common knowledge that if a Registered Nurse is qualified to pronounce someone dead, then he or she is more than qualified to take someone to the bathroom. At every facility there are nurses who will make the residents wait until the CNA comes to get them instead of just taking the residents themselves. Now more and more schools are requiring that student nurses have the proper training because in a lot of people’s minds the best nurses start off as CNAs. In a perfect world, all of the units of a team work together. In the real world, many people know that this is not a perfect world. Therefore, if an individual becomes a CNA they will have the chance to make a real difference in the life of a person suffering from an illness, disease, or disability. People that become CNAs before becoming a nurse learn good communication skills with patients, families, and other healthcare staff. For instance, someone with CNA experience on their first day of clinical rotations, will already know what to expect because of prior CNA experience. Becoming a CNA is an excellent way to help determine if nursing is a good career choice for an individual, and nursing students who have some exposure to health care by being a CNA may seem to feel more comfortable when it comes to their nursing classes. . According to Campus Explorer (2015) being a CNA is proven to be beneficial when it comes to nursing clinical rotation (para 3). What it takes to be CNA Being a CNA, involves being a caring and kind-hearted individual. If someone is not really a nice person, then the residents and the team will suffer. A strong stomach is, also, required because the amount of bodily fluids the CNAs deal with is beyond disgusting. According to, Nursing for Guys (2010) “A CNA will be used to cleaning up other’s poop and pee. Also blood” (para 4). Also to be a good assistant, the aides have to be able to take criticism and deal
Being a CNA is hard and taxing on people mentally and physically. It a tiresome job that turns most people off from the start. But, I do think joy can be found in this job. Most will say that being a CNA is like being a glorified butt wiper which I mean yes we do wipe butts but there is a lot more to the job then that. There is relationships that are built with the residents and patients that is unique to a CNA. My job is hard and sometimes I just want to throw in the towel. But then there's that moment that changes it all and makes you love the job even though it very hard. Being a CNA is all about the passion, relationships with people and hard work.
I am a CNA, I am the person who helps your loved ones, children and maybe even yourself with everyday aspects. I am the person who helps your grandmother get ready in the morning or helps your uncle eat his lunch. I am slapped, bit and yelled at more times than not. I change diapers and clean up vomit daily. I wake up early and stay up late to help you when you whenever you need me. With all of this hard and tiring work comes the rewarding parts. I get to play card games like Go Fish and learn new ones from the residents like Bridge. I sit and talk with residents and hear their stories from when they are young. I get to soothe your premature baby and sit with her as she heals and grows until she goes home. I play board games and color with children who are suffering from chronic illness and cancer. I hold your mothers hand as I tell her it’s okay to go and that she is so loved. I am a CNA, and though I may not be for long I put my entire heart and soul into it and love every second. I have long desired for the chance to work in a medical setting and working in an assisted living home has made me realize that the job comes with so much more than the job description entails.

Nursing is more than traveling room to room, patient to patient, to provide medical care. Nursing is about treating the patient with the utmost respect and compassion. It’s more than providing medical care, but supporting the patient and family. Being a nurse only requires a bachelor degree and a “RN” badge, however, a great nurse possesses that knowledge, along with determination, a positive attitude, compassion, and patience. I believe that I display these characteristics and have a true passion for helping others. Throughout high school, I always had an interest in the medical field and biology. In my junior year, I decided to enroll in the CNA course to pursue my passion for nursing early on. Through this class, I experienced moments of self discovery
para. 1). Registered Nurses should be emotionally stable, so they can help the families through rough times (“Registered Nurses” U.S. para. 47). All RN’s will need to have the patients medical issues, and problems handy and to give the patients, and their medicines when the patients need it (“Registered Nurses” U.S. para. 8). A day in the life as a CNA (Certified Nurse Aide) can have its ups and its downs. Do you think there are more medical assistants (MA) then registered nurses (RN)? Do you think they are capable of doing the same job? I will tell you everything you need to know about MAs and RNs. First off I would like to say that I am a medical assistant and I have been since 2007, I enjoy my job and the people I work with. Nursing, in my opinion, takes full commitment from someone. One must be knowledgeable, dedicated, and willing to help others at all cost. My mother is the greatest nurse I have ever encountered and has been my inspiration since I can remember. She has been a nurse for over 20 years and I have been captivated ever since. I was born to do this, to advocate and help others that are in need. Being able to apply the knowledge and skills learned in a real hands-on situation has given me the utmost motivation to fulfill my dreams of one day becoming a nurse. I was able to successfully complete my rounds of clinical hours as part of my nursing program at various locations and departments. I was assigned to MD Anderson, Harris County Psychiatric Center, and Silverado Memory Care Community, where I was able to work with many different types of patients and become acclimated to the environment. The duties in which I was able to preform varied location to location but included, head to toe assessments, insertion/removal of Foley catheters, medication administration, tube feedings, trachea suctioning, and numerous care plans just to name a few. I was able to interact with patients one on one as a student which has instilled confidence and reassurance in my future.

Under her leadership we have transferred to a new curriculum and new text books that are more focused on meeting the Arizona state board exam requirements.
In some states these opportunities vary. They would work in Hospitals, physician offices, health agencies, nursing homes, and even in private homes (MSHealthCareer.org).
