Martin Luther King Jr. was a very influential man in the life of many people. He transformed the lives of blacks and whites as a whole and should be viewed by people as a hero. He stood up for what he believed in, and helped change the America into how we know it today. Martin Luther King Jr. was a strong man and never let anything stand in his way of accomplishing the goal he set out to do, which was to get blacks their freedom/equal rights. He stepped out on his balcony and was shot by a sniper, the man’s name was James Earl Ray, and he was a former convict (The American Reader: Words That Moved a Nation). James Earl Ray was on the run for two months and was finally caught and he was sentenced to ninety-nine years and prison. Martin Luther King Jr. was a hero to some and a villain, to others but no matter what way the people viewed him, he influenced US history forever. He was an African-American Baptist minister, a social activist from Georgia, a father of four children, and a loving husband. He stood for peace, equality, and justice, especially for African Americans and the socially disadvantaged. The pastor became a Civil Rights leader due to the tension in the south. Little did he know, he became the man that was considered to be the driving force behind the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and Voting Rights Act of 1965.

After a two month manhunt for the killer they finally tracked him down. The killer turned out to be James Earl Ray. He pleaded guilty and was sentence to 99 year in jail.

African Americans were obligated to utilize separate schools and public utilities from the greater ones set aside for whites.
