The book being examined is the "Carnegie Learning Math Series 2" textbook. This textbook is used by our current seventh grade. The company's other books are used within our elementary, eighth grade, and Algebra 1 course. This is a large textbook that comes in two volumes. The textbooks are consumables so students can write directly within the textbook. Additionally, the textbook comes with a companion software called MathiaX. This software mirrors the textbook. Students log onto the software and can practice problems within each unit. The teacher is able to track and record student progress throughout the software. The teachers and students both have access to the resource center provided online by the company. This is electronic copies of all the textbooks, resource books, and assessments. The textbook is aligned to the Common Core Standards.
Knowing that this book is very "wordy", I was excited to determine the readability of the text. To determine this I used a website created by Brian Scott. The site allows users to copy and paste passages from the textbook to be analyzed. From my textbook, I copied and pasted two separate sections. I copied from the introduction of

Personally, I feel the textbook is extremely difficult for our students to understand. The amount of reading and the difficulty of the reading is hard for my students, especially my IEP learners. Moreover, the textbook does not provide enough practice for students within the actual textbook. While the textbook connects the mathematics to real world scenarios, I often find that most of my students are not making the connections because they are lost in the words. Many students within my class grumble and moan when I state we are using the books for the day. To them, this creates anxiety because they cannot comprehend what is written
Founding Brothers by Joseph J. Ellis is a study of the lives of the founders of the American republic or as Ellis sees them, the founding fathers-- Benjamin Franklin, George Washington, John Adams, Aaron Burr, Thomas Jefferson, Alexander Hamilton, and James Madison. It mainly focuses on important segments in the lives of these men. “Ellis shows us how the relationships of the Founding Fathers shaped the period in which they lived.” (Melanie R. McBride. Cedars, S.R. ed. "
In my personal opinion, this book was very hard to read and follow. At certain times I had a hard time figuring out who was talking in the book. I really wanted to enjoy this book and it’s “case studies” but I simply could not get past the confusion and enjoy this like I would any other book. I feel like the author wrote a lot of the situations for shock
For this book analysis, I read the book A Piece of Cake by Cupcake brown. It is a memoir told by Cupcake about her life. She starts the book at age 11, when she was living a normal and pleasant life with her mother in San Diego. She was quite close to her along with her step father (who, at the time, she thought was her biological father), and her uncle. Then out of nowhere, she finds her mother dead in her room and her life is shaken into disaster. The court system had to turn both her and her brother over to her biological father whom she never met, instead of giving her to the man she was raised by. Her father then sent her to a foster home where she was raped and beaten constantly. When she
Overall the book was a good read and touched on some various topics that are discussed in our class.

What Did You Expect To Learn When You Picked Up The Book? To What Extent – And How Effectively – Were Your Expectations Met?
As I read more and more the more I get confused. It is just the way the author writes, that throws me off track. I did realize that there was little stories throughout the passages that I found interesting, but it just skips around so much. There are many different ways people can write. It all depends on what you like to read. I think that if I started to read these kinds of things on a daily basis I would start to learn how to read them better.
The writing style gave you a choice on what interesting subject you wanted to read, and also it gave you a preview of what the chapter was going to be about. The style of how it was written could also be a struggle for people. This book would not be recommended for people who wanted to stick to one specific subject; it would be a book for people who wanted an array of subjects. He does stick to one specific concept, which was bias. He has this subject scattered through the book, and they all mean different things. The experiments could be seen in positive light or negative, it depends on the type of reader you are. They can come out to be confusing but when you are able to play out the experiment it may be fun. The presentation of the book itself is an eye catcher, and maybe even the reading style will intrigue you to read it. This book is very intricate but you will not know if the information that is given will

This requires teachers to provide complex and real application lessons. Financial literacy was added to mathematics and the need for real-world activities was a must. The book helped students understand how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide, but failed to show how it really works when shopping from a grocery ad or purchasing a home of which they had to understand property taxes. Students had to answer word problems about shopping for items at stores, but the textbook did not come with store ads.
