Start using as soon as the period of withdrawal is over, and the patient has achieved abstinence. Used for maintenance of alcohol abstinence. Starting Dose
666mg tablet two times daily for body weight <60kg
666mg tablet three times daily for body weight >60Kg
Maintenance Dose Same as starting dose
Patient Education
Tell the doctor if you have thoughts of killing, harming yourself or other. Might not be affective if individual has not abstained from alcohol or has a relapse. Tell your doctor or dentist if you are taking acamprosate before surgery.
Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to be pregnant or are breast feeding. Reference(s)

When to Use the Drug for Treating Alcohol Use Disorder
Patients who have achieved abstinence can use Naltrexone to reduce alcohol cravings especially at time when there is high risk of relapse such as on holidays, or tragedy. Starting Dose
50 mg oral tablet once daily.
Maintenance Dose 50 mg oral tablet once daily
Patient Education
Nausea is the most common side effect. Start with a lower dose, do not take on an empty stomach and the side effects should be better after a few days. Let your doctor know if you have yellowing of eyes or skin, tea or dark colored urine, light colored bowel
movements or abdominal pain lasting more than a few days. Reference(s)

Disulfiram Brand name Antabuse
When to Use the Drug for Treating Alcohol Use Disorder
Used as a deterrent to drink by making individual ill if they drink. Start taking this drug after abstinence is achieved.
Starting Dose
250-500mg/day
Maintenance Dose 250-500mg/day
Patient Education
Do not take disulfiram while drinking alcohol. Wait until at least 12 hours of drinking otherwise you will have side effects. Take this drug regularly.
Carry an emergency card stating you are on Disulfiram. Reaction of Disulfiram and alcohol can occur up to 2 weeks after Disulfiram is stopped.
Inform your doctor about all the medications you are taking before starting Disulfiram. Reference(s)
