AGM1 — AGM TASK 1: BEHAVIOR MANAGEMENT & SUPPORT A. Reflecting on School's Behavior Management System 1. Proactive Approach to Managing Student Behavior At my current school, we tend to take proactive measures to address behavior management. These strategies include Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), restorative justice practices, and social-emotional learning (SEL) initiatives which are all integrated into our daily routines. For instance, PBIS emphasizes the teaching of behavioral expectations, reinforcing positive behaviors, and providing timely interventions for at-risk students. Restorative justice practices focus on repairing harm and restoring relationships rather than solely applying punitive measures. SEL initiatives aim to develop students' emotional intelligence, empathy, and conflict resolution skills, fostering a supportive and inclusive environment. 2. Equitability and Fairness The current approach to behavior management for my main campus focuses on evidence based strategies, aiming to maintain fairness and equity among the student body. However, upon closer examination, there are concerns regarding the equitable application of disciplinary actions, particularly among certain student subgroups. For example, based on data I’ve reviewed it revealed that students from Latin backgrounds receive disciplinary actions at higher rates than their peers for similar infractions. This issue emphasizes the need for a thorough investigation to identify inequalities within our system. So, I believe continuous evaluation and refinement of our practices are imperative to ensure fairness and equity for the student body of Parkhill JH. One way to go about preventing this we should dedicate a staff development day to implementing
AGM1 — AGM TASK 1: BEHAVIOR MANAGEMENT & SUPPORT implicit bias training for staff and reviewing disciplinary procedures. These types of accroaches can help address these disparities and promote a more equitable learning environment. 3. Alignment with Mission, Vision, and Values At Parkhill JH, the school's mission is to Achieve Success, Inspire Dreams, and Maximize Potential. However, our vision is centered around creating an inclusive environment where every student feels valued, respected, and supported. Additionally, our values prioritize integrity, empathy, and equity. It is evident that our behavior management system aligns with these guiding principles. For instance, I believe we uphold to our mission and vision due to the fact that we prioritize proactive interventions and foster positive relationships. Also, promoting social- emotional development among students reflects our commitment to empathy and equity. 4. Alignment with Personal Ethics Statement I firmly believe in creating a supportive environment where every student has equitable access to opportunities and support. The school's approach to behavior management resonates with my personal ethos because it aligns with our shared goals of Achieving Success, Inspiring Dreams, and Maximizing Potential. For instance, by prioritizing support over punishment and fostering a culture of empathy and understanding, our behavior management practices emphasize my commitment to inclusivity and fairness. So, the alignment between my personal ethics and the school's behavior management approach reinforces our collective dedication to promoting student success and well-being. B.
