Describe an organizational structure you would select for the consulting business in the scenario by doing the following: 1. Chosen Organizational Structure (A1) Describe the main features of one of the following organizational structures that would meet the needs of the consulting business and explain how this structure applies to the scenario. • functional • divisional • matrix • teams In my attempt to seek investors, I emphasize the functional organizational structure. Each department is developed to provide peak performance, and with only have one manager to communicate with there will be more overall sucess. With the consulting industry, funcational is the best structure to work with as each department helps contribute to the success of sustainiablity and innovation in the local community. Funcational sturucure can provide feedback that everyone needs because those departments have the necessary skills to obtain profitably and reputation. 2. Chosen Organizational Structure and the Four Factors (A2) Using the chosen organizational structure described in part A1, explain how each of the following four factors works within the organizational structure selected for the consulting business in the scenario: • functions or departments • chain of command • centralized or decentralized • level of formality Functional structure can be of value for functions or departments because of the division to achieve the mission of the consulting business to life, and can show investors what your organization is capable of achieving. Another important factor is the chain of command, it is helpful with managing part-time interns. They can idenifty who they will report too and make decisions during the plan development. Centeralized organaztions are supported with the funcational structure because it enavles the C-Suite indiviuals to make objective decisions with the organizations mission and success with the local community. Decentralixation is not ideal for funcational organizationas as it does not promote teamwork, however, decision making could be easily made. Functional organization supports formality because it sets rules and establishes a clear mission and helps delegate the task to each department so they can help businesses asses their needs and develop plans for any future consulting. B. Organizational Structure Aligned with Organizational Theory (B) Describe one of the following organizational theories and explain how it can be used to support the organizational structure described in part A1: • scientific management • bureaucratic • administrative • neoclassical
• modern • contingency/situational The organizational theory that would best support functional organizational structure would be the administrative theory. This theory would support the organizational structure because it offers efficiency to the consulting service clients. The five elements of this theory help improve not only the department’s efficiency but the individual as well in the department. It also helps the managers be more productive and makes sure that the customer becomes the most innovative. It increases the communication between all levels, and should help execute any plan there is. C. Explain how organizational structure can impact business effectiveness by doing the following: (C1) . Identify one of the goals from the scenario for the consulting business. Assess the sustainability and innovation needs of 30 businesses in the local community in the first year. You will then share the results of those assessments with all business stakeholders to generate feedback that will be used to develop and implement proposals for consulting. (C2) Explain how the chosen organizational structure from part A1 can impact the consulting business’s ability to meet the goal identified in part C1. I believe that the functional organizational structure can positively impact the goal listed above. I believe this because the functional structure breaks down into categories of departments, and each department holds a higher knowledge than those that are shared, they can help assess each need that the business needs to grow. Only having one manager for communication, helps limit confusion, and the manager then communicates with those who hold higher roles, to effectively assess the community business. However, there is always a downfall and I believe with would come with being separated, it is possible that people work better in teams and that departments should migrate together to be more efficient in the assessment for the company.
