2 What is Crowdsourcing? I am familiar with crowdsourcing but did not know it was referred to. “Crowdsourcing is obtaining information or opinions from large groups of individuals who submit their information in many different formats” (Hargrave,2022). People that work within crowdsourcing are often labeled as freelancers or perform these types of small tasks voluntarily. I am sure most of us have unknowingly done this before. Crowdsourcing also companies to delegate work out to people throughout the country this gives them a large variety of workers as well as diverse skill sets. This is also beneficial to reduce the overhead of paying to house multiple employees under one roof. Types of Crowdsourcing Applications Wazoku Crowd is a popular application used to help global business, government and both public and private sectors. Some of its main features include the ability to extend problems to multiple peoples within the same problem-solving mindset as well as being able to connect directly to people that understand your organization (Enfroy, 2024). Another application is called Openideo which is which is a platform that makes it easier for people to come together from around the world and share new ideas that could potentially solve complex problems. Some of the key features are being a part of something that is bigger than yourself as well as using the power of communities to fuel business. Last would-be amazon mechanical Turk which is an up and coming but rapidly growing platform. This platform includes micro tasking, simple data categorization. This is a marketplace where businesses can put up small tasks also known as human intelligence tasks. Workers can then go through the tasks and make an offer to complete
3 tasks. Some of the key features for this platform are the ability to hire a diverse work force from multiple locations and increase personal data locations (Enfroy, 2024). Crowdsourcing Problems With all good things of course come some negative effects. Crowdsourcing results can be easily miinterupted or skewed on the crowd being sourced. It can also lack confidentiality and ownership of a particular thought or idea as well as a potential to miss the best thought or potential talent from within. You also raise a risk of plagiarizing when using crowdsource due to a magnitude of the same ideas being present and intellectual property rights being important. Lastly understanding the motivation behind the crowds and its members. Crowdsourcing Business One big company that uses crowdsourcing is LEGO and has one of the best crowdsourcing examples to give. The product creator of the winning Lego design then receives a 15 loyalty off product sales for life. Lego has successfully increased its rate of new product designs while improving how customers can participate and engage with the brand (Kim, 2023). This kind of crowdsourcing generates a buzz that cannot be replicated anywhere else, bringing a streamline to the company. Customer Relationship Management (CRM) “CRM, also known as customer relationship management, allows you to be able to develop and maintain meaningful relationships with customers. This tool helps the organization streamline customer information use in a beneficial way” (Zendesk, 2023). It can capture all interactions across sales, support, and many different other variations. Some of the features to CRM are lead nurturing which is it lets sale reps grow positive relationships with consumers
